From all the ideas I brainstormed during class, I realized I was more interesting in social issues or human-caused issues. (The ideas I liked the most are shown in blue).
In order to get a more focused question I made the following my top questions:
In order to get a more focused question I made the following my top questions:
- How does the lack of education in the poorer areas of Peru affect its economy?
- Is overfishing and marine diversity affecting the economy?
- Tourism contributing to the economy
- In terms of gender, how does the Peruvian economy compare to other countries?
- How large of a role does gastronomy play in the economy?
- How has the opportunities for men and women changed and helped the economy through gastronomy?
I finalized my idea about the opportunities for men and women and how it has changed over the years because of the growing industry of gastronomy, as well as how it connects to the country's economy.
WHY?
Earlier this week I was in my spanish class and our new topic was common stereotypes that we see every day. We came up with different examples and the one that interested me the most was gender stereotypes in specific jobs. For example, women are often associated as a housewife that doesn't necessarily have a job but dedicates her time to her house. We often see women in the kitchen, which is why most chefs you would think are actually women. However, the gastronomy industry in Peru has grown radically in the last few years and this has impacted the amount of women chefs. In fact, there are possibly more men that work as chefs than women in Peru nowadays.
For me, this was very interesting and also quite surprising because it's not something that you would normally think.

I realized this is an interesting topic to research and analyze because of the continuous growth in the peruvian gastronomy. I want to know if it did and to what extent has this impacted the country in terms of its economy.
