Today we had the opportunity to meet American cartoonist and illustrator Harry Bliss!! We asked different questions about how he gets inspiration for his cartoons, his career and if it is a financially stable career (did he even think about that from the beginning?!).
All along in the Innovation Academy we spoke about extrinsic and intrinsic motivations and some of us have questioned if some of the careers we wanted to pursue would be financially feasible. For example, if I decided I wanted to be a photographer, would that be the best decision for me in a financial aspect?
Harry Bliss talked about his experience with this, and he said something very interesting that when he decided to become an artist, money wasn't his main focus. I found this very inspiring because probably if he did focus on money, then maybe he would've never become a successful cartoonist who works for The New Yorker. Of course, when choosing a career path, I believe you have to be conscious about this at some point, but in Harry Bliss's experience, he was always working. He didn't necessarily always work as a cartoonist, but he was always drawing. He said he had worked in a restaurant for many years, but he never stopped drawing.

A smart tip from Harry Bliss:
Spend at least half an hour of your day drawing.
Many people as they grow up stop doing this, but we shouldn't. This may help us with our creativity and maybe some of us could find it relaxing.
