Last week we went as a class to Jockey Plaza to analyze advertisements and stores. How the customer experience is and how much to ads moves us?
Going to Jockey Plaza was truly a hands-on experience because what a better way to learn about marketing than actually experiencing it?
In Jockey Plaza, Carolina and I analyzed different advertisements that were around Jockey Plaza and also analyzed stores. Every store was different and it was interesting to actually see how customers are treated and the purpose of every advertisement around the mall.
One of the stores that we visited was BCBG and we noticed that the employees were very welcoming and helpful. Now that we have been studying marketing I realize how important is to greet your customers because immediately when you enter the store, you want to feel good and welcomed, which may in the future influence whether or not you will buy something from the store.
I realized that there are a lot of advertisements that we see everyday but we never take some time to evaluate them or analyze them to fully understand their meaning and what they are trying to convey. But also, part of publicizing something should also be to convey these messages in a way that people would understand quickly. I think this is important for ads that you are most probable to see while you are driving, for example.

Some of the ads we analyzed
While analyzing these ads some of the things we encountered was how some ads stereotype some people that are portrayed in the ads. For example, the concept of what an "attractive person" is, is a guy with no glasses, which shouldn't be the case. Also, racism is shown in a severe amount in almost every ad or display on store windows. Take some time to evaluate some of the ads and count how many show African-american people. Not many.
These are some of the things we analyzed on Monday:
What was effective
Definitely effective! Do you notice the repetition in the three running shoes? Notice how this might represent the brand. You know the logo for Adidas? Well, the display of the shoes represent just exactly what it is! Plus, it uses a motif. | What was not effective
