"The Cove is a 2009 documentary film that analyzes and questions dolphin hunting practices in Japan. It was awarded the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2010" What if you worked really hard for something and years later you realize the damage you had caused to someone or something? Rick O'Barry, is a renowned dolphin trainer, who worked in the old TV series, "Flipper," and years later, due to the death of one of the dolphins that played Flipper in the series. - IRONY -Most of us have been in Sea World or Aquariums were whales and dolphins have been put in captivity. How many people are aware of this big issue? This is not the only problem, however. Rick O'Barry was part of this offense when working on Flipper and many years later realized how much he was contributing to this fatal cause. This is where we see the irony of this powerful story. How does this documentary relate to:
Talking about universities is definitely a stressful topic for me. Two years ago I began brainstorming careers I wanted to study and since then I have changed majors about 10 times because I never found MY PERFECT career choice. Again, stressful! During my summer vacations this year, while doing my AMERICAN DREAM project, I had to research universities that fit my personality and choices. As much as I was surprised, I managed to find my Top 3 choices. What surprised me the most was that I opened myself to look for options abroad and actually found universities that I liked in the U.S. like Northeastern University, for example. Before doing this research I was closed to the idea that I wanted to study in Lima. However, I have now realized that there are other options for me but there is still something that stops me from pursuing this interest. Today our counselor, Mr. Bailey, came to talk to us about colleges. I was excited because for the first time I had a better idea of what he was talking about. Even though I have a much more clear path in this journey to finding the best university for me, I realized something that I wasn't ready to accept for myself. The truth is, I feel scared to take this big step after graduating for school and I had never taken the time to realize it. The reason why I didn't want to study abroad was because I didn't want my life to change when I went to college. Should I risk my education and stay in Lima in a university I dont really feel motivated to be in? Or should I be a risk-taker and apply for a university that I really feel good with even though it's miles away from home? Now I know its time to make a decision. An important one and I have to take action. IT'S HAPPENING and I need to stop running away from this reality. When making my American Dream video I researched about universities in several research sites. However, there are MUCH more and great ones. My goal is to keep researching and even though my decisions change constantly, having more information never hurts.
These are some other sites I learned about today: College confidential: www.talk.collegeconfidential.com Family Connection (NAVIANCE): www.connection.naviance.com/cfdr Unigo: www.unigo.com Colleges That Change Lives: www.ctl.org Colleges of distinction: www.collegesofdistinction.com Last class we watched The Great Gatsby after reading the book by F. Scott Fitzgerald and as we began our film unit, these are some of things I was conscious about while watching the film by Baz Luhrmann.
Mise-en-scene: Anything that appears in the scene Expression used to describe the design aspects of a film production. Translation: “visual theme” or “telling a story” – both in visually artful ways through storyboarding, cinematography, and stage. As I watched the movie I realized that there are many effects that make the movie what it is. It's like it gives it's own personality to the movie and helps transmit the message that is intended to. “Even if you don’t intend something to have an effect, it does.” The POWER of effects The setting of the movie and the props and the scenery, everything had a purpose as I watched this film. Behind a character there is always something that means something to the audience and gives a relevant message about what the movie is trying to convey.
Symbolism The eyes in the movie represent that everyone is watching They can try to hide the affairs & the murder ,but in reality everyone knows about it.
The difference in setting in the movie. We can difference these by the way people dress, the cars they use, their homes, decoration, what they consume, etc. -Notes-
The Great Gatsby involves a lot of drama and suspense that keeps you engaged throughout the entire st. What caught my attention the most was the constant flashbacks from Nick Carraway and the narrative that went along with it. When I began reading The Great Gatsby about a month ago, I felt confused as I realized that the narrator of the novel was Nick, and not Jay Gatsby, of whom the book mostly seemed to focus on. The film begins with Nick Carraway’s narration as well, as he reads part of the novel he is writing about Gatsby and I realized how powerful the movie is because of this. Nick’s narration throughout the movie is a profound reflection of what he sees as an outsider in Gatsby’s and Daisy’s relationship and what is occurring in their surroundings; this allows the watchers have a close look and understanding to what it’s really happening in the storyline.
On the same terms, F. Scott Fitzegarld is represented in the movie through Nick Carraway, an aspiring author. His dream, as well, was to become a very wealthy writer and the reason he writes this book is to see the person he is and who he could have become, which is represented by Jay Gatbsy.
